When you look at them, consider: is it clear how each section of the thesis answers the research question? The image at the top of the post shows a concept map I drew for a relatively straightforward section of my thesis.
Now you need to consider the format of your final thesis. Why do I need to write a thesis statement for a paper?
In a previous post I wrote a bit about outlining: a useful and pretty basic technique for planning any body of writing. I should have taken snapshots as I built it up, because it would have revealed much of my thought process.

I divided it into three clear topics. The branches form a connected nodal structure How does a mind map help? It is essentially a table of contents. It shows the way ideas are interrelated or less related than you thought. You list all the major topics and subtopics with key points that support them. Visualising arguments in different ways can also help us discover a new form of organising that is more logical and effective. In fact, you should keep the thesis statement flexible and revise it as needed.
This is a challenge that a writer would face no matter what one writes: be it a story, a journal article, a movie script, a dissertation or any book for that matter. Or do you need to refine your research question?

How do the chapters follow on from one another? Now consider if you need a Stage 5 and add it to the outline. Back then I understood what I was writing with sufficient clarity to be able to hold things in my head. Then you write it. What evidence will you draw on? It usually appears in the first paragraph of an essay. Your thesis statement states what you will discuss in your essay. This can help you to identify where it would fit better. By using a Mind Map as a starting point for thinking, you can bypass the blockage and feeling of overwhelm caused by overly analytical thinking. This process forces us to think about how exactly we would narrate the story, and in the process we would be able to identify the merits and pitfalls of each of these layouts. The concept map is a freeze-frame of the state of development. But even these broad outlines will never leave us without a choice of different ways of organising that which we are writing, at least in the two or three chapters that are left to us. Write very specific statements underlining your research aims and objectives.
In this instance it will be examiners from your discipline that you or your supervisors will select. In this way, you would have a structure that enables comparison.

The same goes with Materials and Methods chapter: if you incorporate individual published papers you might not need to include a separate Methods chapter in your thesis. But even these broad outlines will never leave us without a choice of different ways of organising that which we are writing, at least in the two or three chapters that are left to us. Revise the sentence by using specific terms. Would another structure work? Once you have chosen your format, think about the structure of your thesis. The only instance where you cannot alter the structure and referencing style of your chapters is if it is a published piece of work such as a journal article. Just take time to think about this when structuring your thesis. You might have a chapter or section that provides a brief overview of each case study.
